Missing or damaged teeth can leave you feeling self-conscious about your smile and limit the foods you can comfortably eat. Dental implants can provide a long-term solution that restores both the function and aesthetics of your smile. Implants blend in with your existing teeth for natural-looking results, and they are durable and long-lasting. Derby City Dental Specialists places dental implants in Louisville, KY.

Proper placement of dental implants is important to create strength and stability for replacement teeth and ensure that they fit correctly between the remaining teeth. Consulting with a periodontal specialist with extensive training in implant dentistry and current technology, like Dr. Ryan Clagett of Derby City Dental Specialists, can make a difference in your experience.

Our Approach to Your Care

Before recommending any procedures, Dr. Ryan Clagett takes the time to conduct a thorough examination and determine what treatment is appropriate. He explains his findings in easy-to-understand terms and provides you with all the information you need to make an informed decision regarding dental implants.

Dental implants can be used to replace one tooth, several teeth, or a full arch, leaving you with a more attractive smile. Since implants fuse to the jawbone, they provide the necessary stimulation to prevent bone loss and maintain facial structure. You can feel confident that your replacement teeth look and feel great.

Advanced Technology for Dental Implants

Accurate placement of dental implants gives you several benefits:

icon list

Comfort

Your treatment will be less invasive. This means you’ll feel more comfortable after your procedure, and the treatment sites will heal more quickly.

icon list

Natural

Your outcome should look more natural and attractive. The crown that attaches to the dental implant will be in better alignment with the rest of your teeth, creating a more beautiful smile.

Durability

Your results should be more durable. Placing the implant on a stable platform of bone will give your new tooth a stronger base for chewing and biting.

To give patients these benefits, Dr. Clagett uses guided 3D imaging in every procedure he does with dental implants. In advance of your surgery, Dr. Clagett will practice the procedure in a computer simulation based on the scans he took in your consultation. This refines the accuracy of treatment to one-tenth of a millimeter and one-tenth of a degree.

Dr. Clagett may also use X-Guide™ technology, a system that provides GPS-like navigation during surgery. X-Guide gives him incredible vision into the features of the teeth, bone, and mouth, allowing him to place dental implants in a very precise way. Our practice was the first one in Kentucky and among the first 200 offices in the world to adopt X-Guide for procedures.

Patients trust in Dr. Clagett because of his consistent care and unique interest in their oral health. This friendly, yet professional attitude is reflected throughout all aspects of Derby City Dental Specialists.

Your Treatment with Dental Implants

The approach that Dr. Clagett takes will depend on which teeth he will be restoring, how many teeth, the condition of the underlying bone, and other factors.

Regardless of a person’s needs, Dr. Clagett will do everything he can so that patients visiting our Louisville practice always have a complete and aesthetically pleasing smile, even immediately after the procedure. Whether our patients have a front tooth to restore or an entire arch of teeth, he can use a variety of solutions to accomplish this, including immediate dental implants, “snap-on smiles,” and provisional restorations.

Replacing Damaged or Missing Teeth

If your tooth is damaged:

  • Dr. Clagett will remove the tooth and reconstruct the area to ready it for an implant.
  • In many cases, he can place the dental implant and a temporary crown on the same day as the tooth extraction. This will speed up the overall treatment time.
  • Six to eight weeks later, a dentist will replace the temporary crown with a permanent one. This will complete the process and give you a new, natural-looking tooth.

The Different Types of Dental Implants

The treatment steps are similar if your original tooth is already missing, but Dr. Clagett may take extra measures to ready the site for an implant. This may mean a somewhat longer process, but you can still expect a durable and attractive outcome.

Dental Implants and Dentures

Some patients need to replace most of their existing teeth. Others are already using dentures but are unhappy with the comfort and stability of their appliance. A full arch restoration with dental implants may be the solution in both cases.

Many patients are anxious about getting full arch treatment because they are embarrassed about the condition of their teeth and gums. Know that Derby City Dental Specialists isn’t going to judge you or shame you. We’re here to help you get a completely restored smile and the full functionality of your original teeth.

With full arch restoration, dental implants attach to a set of dentures to keep them from shifting while you eat and speak. The implants also help retain bone in the area of missing teeth. There are a few different approaches, including:

  • Removable dentures that snap into the dental implants.
  • Hybrid dentures that are fixed in place with implants.
  • Individual dental implants that replace teeth with new crowns.

Following your initial consultation, Dr. Clagett can advise you about the recommended approach for your needs, discuss the financial aspects of care, and assist you in making the decision about treatment.

With a full arch restoration, Dr. Clagett typically removes the existing teeth, places the implants, and attaches provisional dentures on the same day. You can expect to leave our office with a new, complete smile. After 3-4 months, a dentist will replace the provisional dentures with the final set of teeth.

If you are interested in restoring your full dental arch — or if you just want a better-looking smile and are exploring treatment — Dr. Clagett and our whole team welcome you to visit us.
